LATIN FUNK BOMB!!
RELATIVELY UNKNOWN LATIN/FUNK/LOUNGE RECORD!!
Allegro 72 s/t LP Released in 1973 on Mericana Records.
Not much info about this group : founded by Tito Lara in start 70s. They performed at various television shows - and released this LP. And thats pretty much it. Tito Lara had performed in various groups since the start 50s. He took a bachelors degree in 1970 at Music Conservatory specializing in trumpet playing.
It shines throug on this record, that Allegro 72 was a "television show band". Album is mostly dominated by (to me) borring easy/lounge/latin tracks - but two tracks stands out :
"Gente" and "Canta Conmigo".
"Gente" being a dancefloor killer!! -super-cool-no-nonsence-funky horn driven track -still with a little easy/lounge feel to it. "Canta Conmigo" is more like a jazzy lounge track - not reaching the same hights as "Gente" - this is a keeper!!!!
Never heard of the group or album before, even though the Mericana is not an unknown label. So to me it is under the radar, but given the label, propably many diggers knows this.
Happy to find this still in shrink!!!

LIQUID BREAKS!!!
3 RECS -ALL PROMOTING SOME SORT OF LIQUID - AND ALL WITH BREAKS!!!

SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER AND WE ALL HAVE FELT THE NEED FOR A COLD DRINK ....OR THE NEED TO SMELL A LITTLE BETTER....

DONTFAKETHEBREAKS is showcasing three 7"s promoting some sort of liquid with a little help from the funk and especially BREAKS!!!!.
HERE GOES!!!

First of we have a Coca Cola promotion 7" with a funky B-side featuring the Ivor Raymonde Orchestra "the real thing".
Released in 1971 on the "coca cola label"
heavy big band funk fanfare tune with a super dope break.
To my knowledge this was only released in the UK and was only for promotional use and not for sale.
Both sides were used by DJ Shadow on his Product Placement album and also comped on the Planet Of The Breaks series.
In the soundclip provided I have put an extended part of the break for you to enjoy!

Next up is a wierd one!! this 7" was given away in 7eleven stores back in 1967 as an advert for their new product "THE SLURPEE" On A-side we have the tune "Dance the Slurp" which actually is more odd than it is funky. Also a "fanfarish" kind of tune. However I have never heard a break like the one you hear on this -with straw-slurping sounds playing the percussive part in the break. So funny!!
I have extended and put the break at the begining at the soundclip before the tune begins.
No info about the band on this one - perhaps they have reunited to do a "2012 SLURP TOUR".....
On B-side there is some very weird people telling about how they improoved their lives by drinking "The Slurpee"
DJ Shadow also promoted this on the release "product placement"

Just dug this one up as if it was meant to be part of this "liquid breaks" theme of today...
Last but not least we have a LanCome advert record promoting their new scent "Magie Noire" on a double-sided picturedisc.....
Its actually a mini album on a 7" at 33rpm. Released in the late 70s I think -it Features a lot of loungish easy listening (boring) tunes - but suddenly the track "A tune for everyone" pops up!!!
Done by "The Syd Dale Orchestra". Syd Dale is was a studio musician mostly known for his work at the Library Label KPM. "A tune for everyone" is kind of a sleezy jazzfunk track starting off with a break and then the flute blends in -the tune could just as well have been featured on some of the KPM releases and is really the standout track on this one.  Never tried the scent promoted, but it sure did fine with such a cool tune!!!
Again to emphasize the break on this - it is extended and put in the beginning of the clip..

ENJOY.....

AMEN!!!!
CHRISTIAN GROOVES AND BREAKS
ONE CLASSIC AND ONE KIND OF OBSCURE!!!

THE WINSTONS : COLOR HIM FATHER LP (metromedia records MD 1010) (LEFT)

THE AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BAND : SPREAD SOME SUNSHINE LP
(Private pressing (RIGHT)

Just recently picked these up in a pile of gospel/christian records in a salvations army shop..
Very rarely I stumple upon christian records that I find worth keeping. Mostly I just notice "hey that was a cool interlude" or "nice break". Very rarely I find my self actually enjoying whole tracks on these Xian records - mostly just suprised if anything good actually emerges from the grooves.
These two records are in my opinion some of the exceptions to crappy xian records.
HERE GOES :

Dont know if actually can call this a christian album but I have included it since all this record is about is the track "Amen Brother"
The Winstons Album is known worldwide for the "Amen break" sampled by thousands and has laid grounds for the drumsound of a neverending number of tracks in the drum n bass / jungle genre.
Im not going to write anymore cause this movie says it all about this legendary 6 sec break!!!!
Listen to the break and the track here:

Next up is more of an obscurity :
The Ambassador College Band & New World Singers : Spread some sunshine LP.
This was released in 1974 by a group of students from Ambassador College in Texas.
This christian university released it on their own label simply named "ambassador college".
Not much info is to find about the group anywhere and I doubt vast amount of copies of this exists.
The tune for me on this one is the jazzy freesoulish "Smile upon your brother" which is a nice uptempo track also worth considering bringing to the dancefloors. Not a bad album but "smile upon your brother" is what makes this a keeper. A few of the tracks also has some clean horn-intros which makes perfect for sample use - well check it out.

MORE DANISH BREAKS N BEATS
DONTFAKETHEBREAKS CELEBRATES 10.000 HITS - THANKS GUYS!!
With fokus on jazz/funk/grooves/samples/breaks etc. we take another trip into the world of some danish records and the beats/grooves they keep. Some obscure some less obscure and one secret still under the radar to my knowledge. Some probably knows a lot of them -but maybe there is one you havent heard yet!! Well enough talk - lets put the needle to the groove!!!!

Jan Toftlund & Dårskabens hus "Vejen til byen" LP Exlibris EXL 20.018 1977
Jan toftlund was a Danish Folksinger and guitarist. Always focused his songs on people left out from our welfare society if one can put it that way. He lived a ruff life and died early at 41 in 1990. Througout his life he kept his political standpoint in his work.
Though mainly a folk musician there is a Great trippy joint -starting with a nice break on this release.
"fællestillidsmanden"
straight to the sampler!!

Tyggegummi banden "nu går det løs" LP EMI 1974
translated the band name is (Chewing)Gum-Gang. Not exactly a name you would expect much from.
The band had its origens in Thors Hammer and Anaconda - two danish psych/prog bands.
Two tracks on this worth mentioning. "Nu går det løs" starts off with a cool break and goes into clavinet monster-funk!! mostly the intro is noticable.... Other track is "mit navn er jens" ...which is....... not that good when hearing it again now.....sorry

Electric City O.S.T ELSOUND EMLP 7703 1977
Dont know anything about this one!! dont even know if it is a movie or just a gimmick calling it "soundtrack of the film"
Bandmembers are Kaare Barkou, John Guldberg and Henning Pold.
John Guldberg had worlwide succes with his band Laidback later on.
Two tracks getting special attention from DONTFAKETHEBREAKS :
The titletrack "electric city" is a stunner!! Sounding like something Dam-Funk could or would sample - slow boogie funk!!!!
other track "whats up" is sounding like a library discofunk track. Great Great album!!!

Terror O.S.T Lademann Film LF770304 1977
Another soundtrack with danish Jazz man Palle Mikkelborg behind the music on the track
"Trigger´s Tema"
funky synthy theme music. Dont get alot of that in danish movies. And you dont see this 45 very often either!!

Kalle Kodreng LP 1975
Danish childrens record with, I believe, some of the members from Secret Oyster playing the music.
There are not any great funk tracks on this - but elements which are funky as h***. I took the liberty and made an edit of one of the tracks to emphesize its potential..
Here is the track "rock ´n´ roll" edit-version :

Grethe Agatz "danse, spille og synge med" LP Mascot Records MALP 103 1981
Nice little "sing along-album" with instrumental versions of all the tracks.
Grethe Agatz has released many children records and is one of the pioneers in terms of educational jazz music for children.... if such a genre exists...
One of the tracks caught my attention "brug dine arme" - and I made an edit of this too. But first the original instr. version and after that the edit where vocal and instr are blended.

B & K Goes Rock LP 1984
Brüel & Kjær was a microphone company and made this record as a commercial or demonstration record for their microphones. I doubt many of these were pressed and I have never seen it before now.. Some of the musicians are very known in Denmark. Among others are Michael Elo, Ole Arnfred and Klaus Menzer. Some tracks are vocal others instrumental. First track of my picks sounds a little soundtrack-ish with a bit of 80s prog./modern soul to it. Second is more of a smooth modern soul track.

HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY!!!!
Akropolis "half a million hours Symphony" LP CIRCLE CLP 4206 1979
Very obscure danish prog. LP. Private pressing.
some called it more dusty than dusty fingers... An album with funky prog. tracks. The one track that I belive makes this record so desirable (besides its rarity) is the last track of the album : "Death" which is a slow driven heavy-on-the-drums-prog. track which just blows you away!!
500 copies were pressed - but lack of distribution made them trash the 200 they had left... so only 300 exists and probably fewer than that!!
I had been looking for this for a few years - and suddenly this month I find 3 copies... NICE ONE!!

Povl Dissing S/T LP Sonet SLP 2404 1973
Povl Dissing is a very famous musician with a very significant voice which often makes people either hate him or love him. He has performed and recorded with groups such as beefeaters and burning red ivanhoe. On this selftitled album we have the track "der er ikke noget som damer" (there is nothing like the ladies) -a funny popjazz track which also showcases his voice which I think fits this track pretty good. "the danish James Brown" if you will.....

LAST BUT NOT LEAST WE HAVE A LITTLE SECRET......
STILL COMPLETELY UNKNOWN TO MY KNOWLEDGE.
PRIVATE DANISH PRESSING FROM 1983
BUT SOUNDING LIKE A 1973 FREESOUL JAM!!!!!!
ENJOY... OFCOURSE IF ANYONE KNOWS IT PLEASE POST A COMMENT AND I WILL PUT UP PICTURE AND EVERYHTING - BUT JUST FOR A LITTLE WHILE LET ME BELIEVE I AM ONE OF THE FEW WHO KNOWS....

HOPE YOU ENJOYED......

BIG SURPRISE ON A CHEESYLOOKING DISCO ALBUM!!!
OK I give you the first word of the headline - you guess the rest..... the soundclip will definately help you!!!

The Bottom Line "2" 1977 LP

Hold your breath on this one - cause this is really a surprise!!! at least it was for me.
Check the track "Dance of the Pigmy Warriors" which is worth the whole album if you, like me, are into uptempo drums/Percussion beats!!!!!!!!!!!
IF PLAYER DOES NOT APPEAR -RELOAD PAGE
I dont know a lot about this group - it appears as this U.S group released this, their second album in 1977 in Germany only. Their first album "Crazy Dance" was released 1974 in the U.S and they were nominated as the best new disco artist that same year. Dont know the reasons why their succes faded (as I guess it did since their second album was only released in Germany).
I have never heard about the beats on this one and I guess not a lot of other people knows about it cause you can easily get this for a cheap price..... well maybe you wont agree on this being a killer on the dancefloor, but Im sure a few breakers and beatheads outthere who dont know about this will be surprised and nod their heads acoordingly......

AFRO-FUNK!!!!
HEAVY DOUBLE-SIDER 45 FROM
MOUSSA DOUMBIA
Moussa Doumbia "Keleya/Wanri" 45.
Released in 1974 on SID (Société Ivoirienne du Disque) SID 31

2 MONSTER tracks of Heavy funk!!

 On A-side we have "Keleya"
-inspired by the american funk (James Brown) I would rather call this afro-funk than afro-beat. Doumbia’s rapping, spitting, wailing and spoken word over repetitive ultra funky bass grooves and his Afro rhythms and the occasional stabs of sax.
Side B has The MONSTER : "Wanri" which also can be described as the above -but I just love the hook, eventhoug I dont know what its all about.... But it IS damn FUNKY!!!!!

eventhoug this is a NM copy, the sound is not very good, both because of lack of engineering skills and maybe just bad pressing techniques....

Moussa Doumbia was a saxophonist, arranger, author/composer who used African American funk as his main inspiration during the 1970's. Living in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, West Africa, the Malian artist recorded an audacious music for a restricted public, with the help of two French American producers based there, Cathy & Albert Loudes.

Moussa Doumbia was lucky enough to settle in Abidjan at the same time as the first French speaking West African record company, the Société Ivoirienne du Disque (SID). Even at a small scale, the SID built a recording studio, imported a record press & developped a national distribution network, giving more independance to the local record industry. Both SID owners and their main arranger/co-artistic director, African American sax player Greg Skelton, with their American background, were exactly the people Moussa Doumbia needed to record his music there.

This SID recording is not very good which I think unfortunately was common on their recordings. It also shows on this recording. The Semi-professional sound engineers working at SID show real limits in their skills -actually it sounds like a live recording where the band is placed in another room with closed doors.....

MONIQUE THUBERT 45
MASSIVE FRENCH FREAKBEAT BOMB!!!
BREAKS BREAKS BREAKS!!!!!!!!!!!
MONIQUE THUBERT "AVEC LES OREILLES / BOOFF 45
Released on Barclay in 1968.
I dont know anything about this Monique Thubert or this release.
Apparently this was the only release from her but Im not sure...
But what Im sure of is that "avec les oreilles" is the bomb!!!!
Super uptempo organ/drumdriven psych-ish/wierd/scat/go go - track!!
And very clever to make an instrumental version in which the vocalbreaks are replaced by heavy drumbreaks!!!
An instant dontfakethebreaks favorite!!!!!
I dont think that this is rare but definately worth a listen or two!!

DANISH BREAKS N BEATS
DANISH GROOVES BOTH SAMPLE-WISE, DANCEFLOOR-WISE OR WHATEVER....
Celebrating the new year dontfakethebreaks gives you 12 examples of Danish releases containing either sample material, funky tracks or other related sounds. I am only going to write a few lines about each release to keep focus on the music. Some are pretty wellknown in the danish digger community but I hope I will hit just one or two that people dont know yet. All are picks from the fleemarkets around Denmark..... Here goes......
IF PLAYER DONT APPEAR -RELOAD PAGE!!!

The Jazz Dancer "in the classroom" LP. released on Fona F 503.
This is a drums only LP - the only danish release of that kind I know of. Bjarne Rostvold and Perry Knudsen have some great percussion/drum sessions on 9 tracks on this one. There are three "jazz dancer" volumes, the two others being more like straight up jazz. This is the most wanted and the rarest to my knowledge.
listen to my favorite beat-track on the LP!!

Annisette
"Livet er nu/Der skal en masse sjov til"
45 single.
Released in 1966 on octav records OKS 1003.
Annisette is best known for her being a member of Savage Rose which was a danish prog-rock group in the 70s.
This one is a Dancefloor killer!!!! "livet er nu" is a heavy "yeah yeah" soul track which always turn heads on the dancefloor.

Jørn Grauengård "Vintage 73" LP
released in 1988 on Salut records SALP 8426.
Jørn Grauengård is one of the big names in danish jazz, begining his career in the late 40s I think.
This is studio recordings made in 73-74 when he and his orchestra was rehersing for a job at the Artilleribar at hotel Scandinavia in 73. These sessions was released as late as 1988. Many has slept on this, including myself, because of the cheesy-looking cover and mainly because of the release year. But dont be mistaken - this is FUNKY!!!! .... or at least two or three tracks are....

Røde Mor "tag hvad der er dit" LP.
Released in 1972 on Demos records Demos 10.

Røde Mor - a famous political/art/music group or movement. I discovered a tiny break on this one.
I have edited the break just for you to get a feelin of it. Not one of the best breaks outthere but its there!!!

Rudolph S/T LP
- released in 1976 on polydor 2380 048.
MOOG MADNESS on the track
"Helge og Ebba"!!!
Im pretty sure not many knows about this.
Dont know anything about the artist.
Album consits of other Jazzrock tracks but not quite the same as "Helge og Ebba"
Check the audioclip!!

AND THANK YOU UPSKIBOO -FOR LETTING ME KNOW!!!!!

The Clan
"do it again just a little bit slower/your good girls gonna go bad"
released in 1967 on Ring Records R 5000.
The Clan was a group out of Copenhagen, founded by producer Jimmy Campbell in 67 in an attempt to create a Danish supergroup. They disbanded after a few months with only two single releases.
This one contains the great RnB/beat track
"your good girls gonna go bad" which is an uptempo dancemover!!! -in my opinion also pretty slept on....

Joy "syng for herren" LP
-released in 1979 on Stuk records STUK 439.

BREAKS BREAKS BREAKS!!!!!

Obscure little christian modern gospel LP with a nice little breakintro on one of the tracks.
Nils Tuxen is among the members of the group..

Bent Jacobsen -bøssernes befrielsesfront
"Bøsse" LP
- released in 1975 on Demos records Demos24. HOMO-FUNK!!!!!!
Translated the title of this LP means GAY.
Great great LP with some, I believe, at the time unheard of gay-issues, expressed on 13 tracks. I think this was the first time a gay-release was ever seen in Denmark.
featured here is the monster funky "ENGANGSKNALD" (onenightstand)
which is an uptempo funkstomper!!!!
Many famous musicians is featured on this release : among others Anders Koppel, Jens Rugsted, Nils Tuxen and Kaspar Winding.

Splask S/T LP
- released in 78 on Respons records REELP 101.
This album is mostly wanted for the cover version of a KOOL AND THE GANG´s "funky stuff" -Here called
"der for lidt der fedt"
but the one for me is the heavy heavy :
"hymne til kroppen"
which is a slow bluesrock groover!!! check it out!!!

Børn og unge fra Mellervangskolen, Aalborg "sådan en Fredag" LP
-released IN 1979 on STUK records STUK 442.

BREAKS BREAKS BREAKS BREAKS!!!!!

children and young people from a school called Mellervangskolen. Two cool drum-intros on this one. I have NO idea about the people on this one!!!!!....

Burnin red ivanhoe "w.w.w." LP
-released in 1971 on Sonet records SLPS 1530.

Their records are in demand worldwide and are known as one of the best ProgRock groups out of Denmark.
On this one we have two grooves which I think could be interesting for beatmakers to chop up or at least do something with it.
"Shadow-ish" Trippy sounds........
judge for yourself.

Daimi "da verden blev væk" LP
- released in 1976 on Sonet records SLP 1727.

Daimi is a wellknown danish actor and singer and has on this release a little naughty tune called "kvinden med de store brysters sang"
(the song of the woman with the big breasts)..... funny little tune with somewhat of a discofunky edge to it.

THERE YOU HAVE IT. - I AM NOT SAYING THAT THESE ARE THE TOP 12 BREAKS OR GROOVES FROM DENMARK, BUT SIMPLY GIVING SOME EXAMPLES OF THE FUNK, BREAKS OR GROOVES RELEASED IN DENMARK.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
