I thoght I knew all the tracks worth knowing by the late Barry White.....
But I´ve been surprised a few times by tracks performed or related to him. Lately I was surprised again and thought maybe other people have slept too.
After leaving 20th Century records in 1979, Barry launched his own label "Unlimited Gold"
These three releases are all from his own label. :

-The Album "Change" from 1982 contains the song "Passion" which is a disco/boogie track.

-In 1979 he produced an album with his girlgroup "Love Unlimited" called "Love is Back" Which contains the MONSTER modern soul disco track "High steppin hip dressin fella" which is sure to fill many dancefloors!! I have the 12 inch which includes an instrumental version too.

-The "Barry & Glodean" Album was released in 1981 and contains the mid-tempo track "I want you" which I think also has some modern soul feel to it.

None of these releases are espesially rare as far as I know - But they surprised me a lot when I put them on my turntable as I expected something different.
Well maybe you know them already -but I didn´t!!!

FINNISH B-BOY BREAKS!!!!
MATTI OILING HAPPY JAZZ BAND LP

From Finland came this release in 1970 on Finnlevy records. Matti Oiling being the drummer and the percussionist on the album. Matti and his band cut the MASSIVE b-boy track "Oiling Boiling" which this LP is famous for!!! A track that no beathead or dancefloor can be without!!!! While the "Oiling Boiling" is more of a straight funk workout with some, I would say Kraut-elements, the rest of the LP is more on the groovy psych/prog side. The Album is one of the more sought after LPs of the european funk scene. Definately one I HAD to pick up!!!!

FRENCH AFRO-FUNKISH MAYHEM!!!!!!
....COMME UN POT DE FRAISES - TAFE DUBONBOULO

Taken of the french erotic b-movie "...comme un pot de fraises"...
"TAFE DUBONBOULO" is a killer dancefloor track done in an afro funkish vibe.
Jo Moutet (who wrote the music to the movie) I think has here been strongly inspired by "soul makossa" by Manu Dibango.
The soundtrack LP is rare in it self -but this promo single I have only seen once.... in my own hands...
Released by France Pathe Records in 1974.

LITTLE SPANISH FLAMENCO NUGGET!!!!
WITH A PSYCH-FEEL.......
Morena y Clara was a spanish flaminco-pop duo from the 70s.
they released this single in 74 on discophon containing two tracks :
"no llores mas" and "deje de quererte" Both nice downtempo psychish tracks
which to me has a little middle-eastern feel to them.
dont know much about this group
- heard "deje de quererte" on a spanish psych comp. and was turned on!!!! And luckily I found this shortly after.

JAZZ IN THE SUN - NILO TOLEDO
MORE HOCTOR FUNK MADNESS!!!!!
THE GOLD COAST rightclick to open in another window

Here is another of the "grails" from the hoctor label. "Jazz in the sun" LP Directed by Nilo Toledo. Dont quite know what "directed by" means. I dont know if Nilo has anything to do with the music. He is credited only as a dancer on back cover... lots of different tracks on this one. A nice  cover version of B.T express´ "do it", Bill Withers´ "aint no sunshine" and Chers "Half Breed".  BUT... one of the main reasons why this LP is so much wanted is the track on this LP called  "THE GOLD COAST"  - CRAZY FUNKY and played SO tight that you allmost beleive that it is some sort edit done by using a sample -I did the first time I heard it.....But its just "jazz in the sun"......... SO happy when I finally got this - it took a couple of years though.... The hoctor reviews is to be continued at a later time...still got a few big ones to showcase!!!

JAZZ DANCE BALLET-STYLE SEEMS LIKE A NATURAL STEP TO TAKE AFTER THE SCHLAGER "REVIEW".........
FOR SALE
WHICH MEANS UP FOR TRADE...
I HAVE JUST LOST MY RONN FORELLA MOVES LP AND I WANT TO WORK OUT A DEAL ON ANOTHER COPY!!!
IF YOU NEED THIS ONE AND ARE WILLING TO TRADE A RONN FORELLA MOVES ORIGINAL LP THEN CONTACT ME!!!
 COOL GROOVES AND BREAKS!!!

The Hoctor Records label made a bunch of dance-instruction records during the 70s which are on many wantlists around the world. I dare to say that this is one of the most wanted. Jazz in Focus - LP directed by Joe Pugliese . This is not the way I imagined how the music to jazz dance would ever sound before I got this record!!! Done in a solid mixture between heavy funk, jazz and cheasy disco. Not sure that Joe Pugliese has anything to do with the arragements -no musicians are credited. But the record takes us throug a world of smooth grooves and some tough open breaks!!!!
Got the LP for about 100$ which is pretty cheap for a copy in shrink and in NM shape!!
(thank you CAN-Records in Cph)

SCHLAGER, "TOP HITS", HIT PARADE, HAMMOND HITS......
YES THEY ARE ANNOYING - BUT WAIT!! DO THEY HAVE SOMETHING USEFUL??...
IT AINT ALWAYS ABOUT RARENESS.......

When you dig for records in Denmark – many times (or almost always) you bump into these schlager-records from germany, hammond hits records or other cheasy records..
When you got up early to be at a fleemarket as the first one and only see records with these artists you start to wonder is it all worth it??
"I just wasted another sunday morning where I could have slept..."
BUT.....there are some of these awful schlager/hammond/hits-records which has some nasty breaks on them. Therefore this little Cheasy-Breaks edition. If you dig for beats/breaks, these will often be left by others who only dig for rare stuff and has no interest in breaks...

I dont want to write anything about these records -as the music as a whole dont interest me. But I have showcased the breaks....that almost any idiot will be able to find in Denmark. In that way you can feel that you got atleast SOMETHING out of those early weekend mornings....
These are some of the records I see most often - and which has something more to them than just cheasyness....
I have looped some of the breaks and put them together as two tracks just so you wont have to start the player over and over again.....
track one :

1 : robert last, with two breaks, 2 : les humphries singers with a nice cowbell on top of a break, 3 : then at last......James Last "viva" LP with 3 breaks -one of them in perc mode

track two :
1 : klaus wunderlichs much sampled "summertime" 2 : Internatinal hit parade -huge dusty break!! 3: Valdemar Roelle -much suprising break in the middle of cheasing it off..... 4 : again at last James last voodoo party

DANISH CHILDREN´S RECORDS
SOME OF THE FUNKY BITS OF MY CHILDHOOD.

The Danish market weren´t exactly overfed with funky childrens records. But from time to time you bump into an attempt made to bring the funk to the children.

BENNYS BADEKAR
The most famous of them all and also the rarest to my knowledge is "BENNYS BADEKAR" O.S.T which means something like "Bennys bathtub" (lower left corner). An hour long cartoon filled with psychadelic animations. Story is about a boy and his tadpole who experiences that a whole world exists in his bathtub... Not many copies of this EP has survived...or are busted up. Im lucky cause I found an NM copy...
Released on Fiasco Records in 1970.
(bjarne rostvold and niels henning orsted is among the musicians)
The funky song is when Benny meets an octopus who he becomes friend with. Peter Belli on vocals.... :

CIRKELINE
(on top of bennys badekar) Cirkeline is a famous danish cartoon created in 1957. This EP is from 1968. Also on fiasco records. (musicians includes Bjarne Rostvold, Gert Rostvold, and Lars Black).
Again funkyness involving a tadpole... and a funk/pop "tad pole -song-" with kind of nusery-rhymes to it on top.
"Bim Bam Busse Jeg er en haletudse"

RYTMISK MUSIKALSK HILSEN (Break - nursery rhymes)
(bottom middle)
LP by Grethe Agatz on KMF records from 1975.
Contains a break which is also known outside of Denmark. A lot of japanese diggers came to denmark to get a hold of this record back in the days.

JEG HAR SET DET SELV (Boogie track)
(left bottom)
LP by Lotte Kærså on Mascot Records from 1979 . An LP with songs and games to play.
There is a kind of a Boogie track on this one called "Hjemme i vores gård" which means something like "back at our yard"

BØRNEROCK (funk/rockish track)
(top right)
LP recorded live in 81 at childrens rockfestival different places in Denmark.
Features a track called "Funki" with a tekst which sounds like they have taken Lee Dorseys "everything I do gonh be funky (from now on)" and translated in to danish.

Actually as a child I only knew Bennys Badekar and Cirkeline and had them on tape. - I discovered the others throug a lot of digging... well here they are.

PRAGUE BIG BAND "PORTRAIT" LP
IRON CURTAIN BIG BAND FUNK -BIG BREAKS, BIG HORNS!!!

Behind the iron curtain a whole lot of funk was going on!!! eventhoug not many outside releases found their way into these countries to my knowlegde. I know probably only a few of the artists and releases. One release worth mentioning is this : Prague Big Band LP called "Portrait" or Prazsky Big Band "Podobizna". Released on Panton records 1978 in Czechoslovakia as it was called then. Given the late year I did not have a lot of faith in this record when I found it a few weeks ago - but luckily I was proven wrong!! Milan Svoboda is the conductor and leader but the whole band contributed in composing and all musicians had a Conservatory background. This record is their debut eventhoug they formed in 1974. Not a typical big band as they are mixing genres such as funk, rock, jazz, and classical. Ofcourse the tracks I like best is the ones on the funky side. the track "portrait" opens with a tough break in a straight up funky B-boy style!!!! while the track "Ejhle Clovek" is more soul/jazz-big band style -but still damn funky!!!!! :

PETE YORK PERCUSSION BAND "SELFTITLED"
FUNKY BREAKS, SAMPLES, AWESOME HORNS & FLUTES

The nice mailman brought me this today - made my day!! to begin with - I really like the cover-art on this one! -ex Spencer Davies Group member and drummer (and horseback rider?? he he) Pete York formed "the percussion band" in 1971 and released this LP on DECCA in 1972. Pete york shines on this one, doing his work on drums and percussion. The album consits of partly instrumental jazz tracks with kind of a rock backbone. Album opens with "keep on running" featuring a nice intro-drum-break. But the album is full of such nice touches that any soul/funk/sample-freak would appreciate!!!
some of the tracks would also do nice at the dancefloor I think.
tracks which I like the most is "cold night in the city" , "keep on running", "moleshawk", "sombrero sam"
enjoy - I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy Norman "Gangster of Love"
midtempo Monster of soul!!

Released on Josie. Same label as much of the faumous and much sampled Meters-material came from. Bumped into this track a while ago and simply had to get this 7 inch!!! Jimmy Norman recorded a version of "Gangster of Love" in 1968 which was originally written and recorded by Johnny Watson in 1957. Normans Version is quite a bit different than Watsons. Both great. But after hearing the intro on Jimmys version I was sold!!! Sounds like an goldenage sample that to my knowledge has not been used untill recetly on Lone Catalysts "Back to school".
But I can ofcourse be wrong. well enough with the writing check sound :

DRUMDROPS!!
NICE TOOLS FOR ANY PRODUCER OR BEATMAKER

Just returned from the weekend fleemarkets. Among the more interesting finds : three volumes of "drumdrops". Drumdrops : a series of "drums only"-records, released in the late 70s. The drumplayer on the albums : David Crigger, is credited as "one of the best studio drummers on the westcoast". The albums was intended for educational use, as drum instruction records. Or as said in the description : "Drumdrops lets you be completely free in your songwriting playing etc....."
Nowadays I would believe that this is VERY usable for producers and beatmakers, as the beats are heavy and very well recorded and mixed. Albums with breaks only - thats nice!! You can check some few clips from the volume 3 here :

WAX ON WAX OFF!!
FOOLED AROUND WITH SOME RECORDS ONE NIGHT.
OUT OF IT CAME SOME SORT OF MIXTAPE..:
saw the misspelling too late.....
rightclick to open in another window

THIS ONE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO EXIST........

Ernie Hines "what I would do / Our generation"
on WEPRODUCE xpa-1809 original pressing.
YES this does actually Exist!!!!!! Very rare single.
I actually wrote to Ernie Hines him self and wanted to know about this single and here is what he wrote me back :
"The copy of the 45 record that you have is probably white and may have on it DJ Copy that was sent to radio stations to play a specific song (What Would I Do) and that is what should be on both sides, or it could be a misprint.
What confuses me, however, is that the record has two titles instead of just the one song title that really should be on both sides."
sampled by the famous Pete Rock on "straighten it out"
The track in it self is not rare - you can easily buy the LP where the track is featured - you probably end up paying from 60-150 $ for it though. But it is relativly unknown to exist on a 45!!
I found this at a garagesale in a small town in Denmark... How the heck did it end up there?????
if you dont know this track you better listen :

Beatles find!! SGT PEPPERS IRAN PRESS 2 x EP

Not a big Beatles fan -but this release and find deserves a little notice as it is a bit unusual.
It is one of the crown jewels of all Sergeant Pepper collectibles!
In Iran, probably for economic reasons, they didn't release this album on LP but they made up a double EP of songs from the album, thus making an interesting rarity now.
This kind of find is what I use for trade so I can get my hands on that funk!!
Bought it for 50 dkr and it is completely clean!!! in that same crate there was also a NM Iran EP pressing from the Doors "light my fire" with 2 additional tracks.also incredible rare!! and got it even cheaper!
That was a good day.

GREAT FIND!! Bobby Callender "Musee de L´impressionisme"

just found two copies of this in the same 50cents crate!!!

-released in very low number on the phillips label. Dont think it was ever released on another label.

-a  cocept album by an afro-american musician on french impressionesm. The arrangements, by Mark Suozzo. From soul/funk to library to tripped out psych vibe. This record is full of variation. Lots of bits and pieces for sample use and a great listening experience.....
AND RARE TOO!!!!

Here is a little jazzy gem from Denmark. Involving some of the muscians also featured on some of the most wanted releases from Denmark such as Max Leth and Bjarne Rostvold. Released in 1971 by Danish Radio as a workout record for the whole family!!!.

33rpm 11 tracks on each side of this ep.

Featuring some great tracks in a soul jazz funk vibe. Some will use it for sampling others just for enjoyment.

listen to some of the clips I find interesting here :

Here it is, one of the Holy Grails of soundtrack collecting, "The Games" OST by Francis Lai to the Michael Winner film.

On Viking records Stereo LPS-105

Ultra rare LP printed in an incredibly small run on Viking records.

Also notable for the tune "From Denver to LA" where a young Elton John was hired as a session singer. His name is Misspelled on the cover as Elton Johns. Not only is this score Ultra rare, it's also one of the best that Lai Ever produced, great themes and moods, horns and funk feels.

The Elton song is Killer too with some nice Harpsichords and guitars. Real Masterpiece! check out the "young Elton John track" here :

Monster belgian breakish moog crooner track!!!! Marc Aryan 7inch with the super groovy track "LIBERTE" This deserves attention!! Dont know if this will work at a club. But that break with the moog in the begining of the track is mindblowing!!! ...to me at least!!!
-Not especially rare -but I have never heard it before I found it. What a nice surprise!!!! check it out :
